Vertical Pump Operations Pump School


Acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to select and price vertical turbine pumps for the industrial market. This 5-day course includes basic hydraulic theory, part nomenclature, terms specific to vertical turbine pumps and important information to provide effective interaction with customers and Vertical Pump Operations (VPO) as well as advanced application of vertical turbine pumps in complex customer situations.


You will learn to:

  • explain the basic hydraulic characteristics of a vertical turbine pump
  • identify the parts nomenclature of vertical turbine pumps
  • interpret customer specifications and requirements
  • select pump models, sizes and materials to meet customer requirements
  • select and price the standard product from ePrism
  • identify the sources of information and assistance at Vertical Pump Operations
  • interpret complex technical specifications from the customer and clarify for proper pump selection
  • explain hydraulic systems to enable proper pump selection to meet the requirements of Goulds customers
  • explain the effects of pump design on pump performance for customers
  • select the correct pump materials to meet the corrosive and mechanical requirements of proposed projects
  • apply the requirements of API 610 specifications to vertical pumps
  • apply mechanical and hydraulic design knowledge such as reed frequency, critical speeds and specific speed to provide a quality product to the customer
  • identify the markets and applications for special products
