Can I retrofit the old 3296 with the 3296 EZMAG? go to top
Both pumps are ANSI dimensional, therefore, in most cases the new 3296 EZMAG can bolt in replace the old 3296. Obviously, hydraulic coverage will need to be verified between the two models. Known exceptions are the 3296 3X4-10H and the 3296 EZMAG 3X4-10. These pumps have different centerline heights. The 3296 EZMAG 3X4-10 can operate at 3500 rpm and offers a broader hydraulic range against our competitors. Also, the 3296 EZMAG does not include 13" sizes.

Will the old 3296 still be available? go to top
The 3296 is discontinued and will not be available for new pump sales. We will continue to provide part support and replacement pumps are available if a 3296 EZMAG cannot be successfully retrofitted. We should always be looking to retrofit the old 3296 with the 3296 EZMAG.

Are any components interchangeable between the old 3296 and the new 3296 EZMAG? go to top
No. The new 3296 EZMAG is a completely new design.

Why keep the 3296 designation as part of the new model name if no parts are interchangeable? go to top
First, the 3296 is already recognized as a metal mag drive pump. Thus, the name 3296 EZMAG should be readily recognized as an "EZ metal mag drive". Also, existing customer specifications for the model 3296 should not be impacted by the introduction of a new model.

Customers do not always supply serial numbers when asking for repair parts. They may request 3296 parts when they really want 3296 EZMAG parts. go to top
The components between these two pumps are visually different. This risk can be minimized with a few simple questions. Also, establishing an pump installation date easily directs you to which model is being repaired.

Are any components interchangeable between the ISO ICM and the ANSI 3296 EZMAG? go to top
Yes. All components are interchangeable except the casings, frames, and shafts. Note, although both models use the same IC impellers, the wear ring clearances are turned down for the ICM. Therefore, an ICM impeller cannot be used in the 3296 EZMAG. A 3296 EZMAG impeller can be used in an ICM pump with a wear ring re-machine.

Can the bearing cartridge be repaired? go to top
No. When the pump bearings fail, an entire new cartridge is needed. We have found that this is more economic than repairing a failed cartridge. This will be a popular customer question as they are used to being able to repair cartridge mechanical seals. However, failed pump bearings cannot really be compared to failed mechanical seals.
The bearing cartridge features patented springs under the rotating bearings. These springs accommodate the different coefficient of thermal expansion between the metal cartridge and the silicon carbide bearings. These springs cannot reliably be repaired in the event of a failure. It is also highly unlikely that only one bearing will be damaged in the event of a failure. Typically, all bearings will be need to be replaced. Thus, the only re-useable component in a bearing failure is the lowest cost part of the cartridge, the stationary housing. The reality is that the cost to repair the cartridge is actually higher than the cost of a new one.
