Design Features

Model Features

Packed Stuffing Box
Style C-011 Packing is the standard stuffing box arrangement supplied with the CW pump. The stuffing box contains a packing base ring, a minimum of four rings of packing, a seal cage centered in the box, and a split packing gland. The stuffing box inlet tap is located directly over the seal cage. An out connection is provided at the bottom of the box which may be used to flush solids from the box, or used as a test connection.
Sealing Flexibility
Style C-022 Dynamic Seal is the optional stuffing box arrangement used to effectively control dilution, and minimize sealing water requirements. A maximum of one-half gallon per minute of clear water is all that is required for sealing with this arrangement, 1/4 gpm is normal. The Dynamic Seal used in a centrifugal pump replaces the conventional shaft seal, and is suitable for handling most concentrations of slurries. It may be used on any application where a positive static suction head exists.

The Dynamic Seal embodies a special open expeller with vanes on the outer face rotating in a circular chamber with stationary vanes on the inner chamber wall. A pipe connection is provided to admit liquid to the dynamic seal for flushing, cooling, and ensuring steady operation. If the solid content of the pumped product is low, it can be circulated through the seal. With heavy slurries, a small amount of clear or clarified water may be required to prevent a product build up in the seal area. A disc type auxiliary static seal, that comes into operation only when the pump is not running, is located behind the dynamic seal.

Applications

  • Coal preparation
  • Mineral slurries
  • Cement process plants
  • Air pollution control
  • Lime and clay
  • Aggregate
  • Cyclone feed
  • Taconite slurry
  • Processed ore
  • Sludge handling
  • River water supply
