March 29, 2012, Seneca Falls, NY—As part of the global celebration of industrial pumps, ITT Goulds Pumps is also focusing on another very important pump—the human heart. On April 10, the inaugural observance of Pump Appreciation Day, the company will begin an ongoing commitment to promoting heart health.

“Pumps are the heart of industries that keep the world running, and there is no better way to illustrate that than by supporting cardiovascular health,” said Robert J. Pagano Jr., president of the ITT Industrial Process business, which includes ITT Goulds Pumps. “We’re taking this opportunity to educate the public about the importance of both human and industrial pumps, by joining the global fight against heart disease and stroke.”

The company is working with the international Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) Program, supported by the American Heart Association and its global partners. The program teaches first aid, including the recommended method for hands-only CPR.

During Pump Appreciation Day festivities on April 10, ITT Goulds Pumps will make a corporate donation to the ECC and host a demonstration of the recommended method for hands-only CPR. The donation will be made on behalf of ITT employees and two groups of honorees.

    • More than 10,000 participants in the World of Pumps Quiz, an online test of pump knowledge
    • Winners of the Heart of Industry Award, given by ITT Goulds Pumps sales offices and distributors on Pump Appreciation Day. The awards recognize customer organizations for excellence in using pump technology to improve processes, satisfy customers and enhance our modern way of life.

Along with the donation, ITT Goulds Pumps is encouraging all of its locations to commit time and resources to sponsoring CPR training and heart-health fundraising events beyond April 10.

“Pump Appreciation Day is just the beginning,” Pagano said. “We’re connecting our employees and distributors with resources to host their own heart health events and educational sessions. We want our people to be prepared in life-threatening situations, and to understand the global significance of the ECC Program.”

Other Pump Appreciation Day initiatives include:

    • Pulse of Industry Honor Roll—Pump-industry workers can be named to this new honor roll for such achievements as improving pump efficiency, providing outstanding maintenance, solving engineering or manufacturing challenges, or exceeding expectations to keep equipment running.
    • Consumer education—High-energy videos and consumer-friendly fact sheets will help non-experts understand the indispensable role that pumps play in making the things we use in everyday life.
    • Local events—ITT Goulds Pumps and its distributors will hold education and recognition events for customers and employees at locations worldwide.
