ITT Upgrades Engineering Offers Customers a "One-Stop Global Shop" for Pump Modifications

    5/4/2009

May 4, 2009, Houston, TX – Upgrading older pumps is a more practical option than ever, visitors to the 2009 Offshore Technology Conference will learn, as ITT Upgrades Engineering – part of the ITT PRO Services® organization – showcases its ability to improve the performance and compliance of process pumps for oil and gas customers worldwide.

The Upgrades Engineering group can provide after-market engineering support for any type and brand of pump. It targets “bad actors” and out-of-date pumps that no longer meet American Petroleum Institute (API) 610 standards. Expert in both mechanical and hydraulic designs, ITT Upgrades Engineering has the resources of 14 ITT PRO Services centers at its fingertips. In addition, the group can call on the product engineering capabilities of Goulds Pumps and other ITT units to develop custom solutions that work for each customer.

Customers call on Upgrades Engineering to extend equipment life, decrease Mean Time Between Repairs (MTBR), meet industry regulations and reduce operating costs without the expense of a complete pump replacement. Specific upgrade categories include:
    • API 10th Edition compliance for power end, vertical in-line bearing, and between bearing retrofits
    • Custom drop-in replacement pump and skid packages
    • Hydraulic re-rate modifications
    • Metallurgy upgrades
    • Vertical pump modifications (re-bowls and discharge head)
    • Custom baseplate design
    • Specialty pump engineering (acid handling, slurry, etc.)

Along with engineering services, the team provides upgrade assessments – helping customers to determine when a pump needs to be modified and whether an upgrade or replacement with a new pump will be more cost-effective.

The Upgrades Engineering group recently designed and manufactured a custom firewater pump for an offshore oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. The group used resources from five ITT divisions to develop the new Goulds 30 BHC 3-stage vertical turbine firewater pump with a 100-foot advanced composite Fiberbond® column. In addition to Upgrades Engineering, the team of ITT organizations included PRO Services, Texas Turbine Operations, PRO Cast, Specialty Plastics, and Vertical Products Operations.

In operation for more than 20 years, the Upgrades Engineering group has the capability and expertise to reduce total cost of ownership, meet current industry standards and reduce energy consumption for almost any pump. “We like to think of ourselves as a ‘one-stop global shop’ for almost any modification on any kind of pump,” said Eddie Choung, Aftermarket Sales Manager. “Our customers have the convenience of working with a single engineering contact at any of our 14 service centers. Internally, our team can call on the engineering know-how and product capabilities of ITT worldwide. The result is an unsurpassed capability to assist customers who prefer a cost-effective upgrade to a full pump replacement.”
