ITT introduces PROsmart™, Industry’s first Cost Effective Wireless Machine Health Monitoring System

    12/1/2005

Rochester, NY (December 1, 2005) -- Today ITT launched the groundbreaking PROsmart wireless machine health monitoring system designed to provide cost effective monitoring of all types of rotating equipment. This new technology brings affordable real-time monitoring to equipment that was previously monitored by manual hand held type data collection equipment. The PROsmart system continuously monitors and automatically predicts machine health and alerts operators and maintenance personnel of existing and impending problems.

Process or safety critical equipment in today’s industry is often monitored by sophisticated hardwired condition monitoring systems. The downside of these systems is that they are expensive to acquire and install, they take a long time to commission, and they require extensive training of the operators. The majority of rotating equipment such as motors, pumps, fans and compressors are typically monitored through less costly, but unfortunately less efficient walk-around programs. Such programs do provide important information related to the condition of the equipment and has been proven to reduce the number of catastrophic failures. The downside of walk around programs is that it is labor intensive and the data is often only collected once a month leaving the equipment unmonitored for the majority of the time.

"The lowered cost of electronics and the availability of cost effective reliable wireless data transmission has made the PROsmart system a reality", said Erik Torseke the Director of ITT’s Performance Solutions Group. "It is estimated that the US industry is spending more than $1 Billion annually on walk-around condition monitoring programs. The industry is looking for new cost effective technology that can help them reduce maintenance cost and increase production up-time. The "plug and play" PROsmart can do just that. The system can be implemented within hours, with no wiring required, and provides reliable 24/365 monitoring for less than $2 per day from day one."

ITT’s new PROsmart system provides for a cost efficient online condition monitoring system that requires a minimum investment in equipment, time and resources and is an excellent complement to existing walk around programs. PROsmart automatically collects, trends, and displays data; it then generates alarms based on machine health. PROsmart uses inputs from vibration, temperature, oil condition & level, fluid flush & leak, pressure, and speed, together with patented algorithms, to create Smart Alarms that notify the customer of machine condition via cell phone, pager, email, and a web based browser. The system also collects and presents vibration FFT’s on demand. Unlike traditional online systems, PROsmart was designed from the ground up to have a low total cost of ownership resulting from low cost sensors, simple installation, wireless communication, a web browser user interface, and a subscription based service for most of the system’s components.
